Winston-Salem, N.C. - Well, we are just under two weeks into the season and it feels like we have been going for a month. Practices have been long and tough, but we are making great progress. The more that we play together, the better we are going to be. We have been focusing on getting our offensive timing down and our communication on defense together.
There are a group of guys that come in everyday to practice against us and they help make it more competitive because they are stronger and more athletic. These guys do not take it easy on us at all. They are constantly diving on the floor after loose balls and fighting threw our screens like it's the last play of a championship game. The amazing thing is that these guys aren't out there because they have to be, or because they are getting a scholarship, or getting paid. They are doing it because they love the game and they want to make us better. Although it is frustrating at times because they block a majority of our shots in the paint, we know that going against them is going to better prepare us for the ACC.
We had our first practice in the Joel on Wednesday. It felt good to be back in our gym again. When I walked through the tunnel, it hit me that we have a game in a few days. Just when you start to get tired of practicing, you remember what you are preparing for and why you are working so hard right now. Coach P has been reminding us that what you do today determines what you will do in the first game... or even what you will do in March. We are all anxious and ready for games to begin, but we know that we need to use these practices to make sure we are prepared.
One week is not that long... ya'll better get ready...because I know we will be!!! GO DEACS!
