WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's soccer team has earned an at-large berth in the 2005 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament. The pairings for the field of 48 were announced this afternoon by the NCAA. It is the fifth straight appearance and 10th overall in the history of Demon Deacon soccer.

"This is a goal we set as a program before the start of every season and to meet that goal is satisfying," head coach Jay Vidovich said. "We're very excited to host. It means a lot to Wake Forest University and to our soccer program. It's nice to be home again where we've been successful this season."

Wake Forest (11-7-2) will host a first round game against Conference USA champion South Carolina (12-6-2) on Friday, November 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Spry Stadium.

The Demon Deacons have faced the Gamecocks 26 times in school history and the series is tied, 11-11-4. Wake Forest has captured three of the past four meetings with South Carolina, including earlier this season at the Carolina/Nike Classic. The Deacs defeated the Gamecocks, 3-0.

If Wake Forest advances to the second round, the Deacons would play Old Dominion on Tuesday. Kickoff has yet to be determined.

Eight of the ACC's nine teams made the tournament field, including six that were among the NCAA Tournament's top 14 seeds. Eleven of Wake Forest's regular season opponents made the NCAA Tournament, including three non-conference opponents. The complete list includes Clemson, Duke, Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech and UNC Greensboro. The Deacons went 4-6-1 in those games.
