Winston-Salem, N.C. - It's finally here... GAMEDAY!
Just a few hours till we open our 2005-06 season and I'm so excited. Tonight's game is important for so many reasons. This game sets the tone for the rest of the season. We want to go out and play with intensity. We want to make a statement to the fans that we are going to be a fun team to watch because we play well together and play with energy. We want to make a statement to other teams that they do not want to play us because we get after it on both ends of the floor. Every loose ball, every possession is important to making our statement.
Our preparation for tonight started back in the spring with individual workouts and weight training and continued through the summer and fall. So, to say we are well-prepared is an understatement. Yesterday, Cotelia and I were talking about how this is our last first game as Lady Deacons. Seems like just last year we were freshman talking about how we were about to play our first collegiate game. I have to admit I'm just as nervous today as I was that very first game. Playing with poise and confidence is a focus for us tonight. We want to go out, play as a unit, and have fun. This is the last go around for Keila, Porsche, Cotelia and I and we want to make the most of it.
Tonight, a statement will be made... make sure you come out and Witness the Awakening! It's GAME TIME!
Coach Battle, I'm going to play from the shoulders up from now on! Thanks for the nickname!
