Winston-Salem, NC - The Wake Forest medical staff has cleared cornerback Kevin Patterson to return to practice. The redshirt freshman from Kingsland, Ga., has been sidelined the last four games after undergoing an appendectomy. His status for Saturday's game against third-ranked Miami is probable.

Patterson was hospitalized on October 10, two days after the Florida State game, with abdominal pain. He had his appendix removed on Tuesday, October 11. The appendix was infected and required Patterson to remain hospitalized through Sunday, October 16.

Patterson started each of the team's first six games. He had 23 tackles and three pass break-ups. Junior Riley Swanson has started the last four games in place of Patterson. Since moving into the starting lineup, Swanson has 18 tackles, four pass break-ups and two interceptions.
