Final Stats

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team ran out on a 49-9 run in the second half and forced 38 turnovers, as the Demon Deacons demolished Lipscomb University, 101-38, Monday morning in Joel Coliseum. In the win, five players scored in double figures, while freshman Alex Tchangoue led the team off the boards with a career-high 18 rebounds.

The last time Wake Forest had five players score in double figures was in the 100-75 victory over Charlotte in the first round of the WNIT last season. That was also the last time that the Demon Deacons scored 100 points.

Freshman Deirdre Naughton continued her streak of scoring in double figures with 13 points, while fellow freshman Corinne Groves led the team with the game-high 14. Freshman Yolanda Lavender also scored in double digits with 10 points, while seniors Liz Strunk and Cotelia Bond-Young followed suit with 11 and 13, respectively.

The Deacs opened up strong against the Bison, forcing six turnovers and taking an 11-6 lead in the first five minutes of the game. Only increasing its lead from there, Groves helped push Wake ahead, scoring all 14 of her points off 6-of-7 shooting from underneath. Entering the break, the Deacs had a 20 point lead and 10 steals, while the Bison averaged a turnover a minute and just 23 points.

The second half was much like the first, with the Deacs continuing to force turnovers and pressuring the ball. Outscoring Lipscomb 62-15, and shooting 70 percent from the field, Wake Forest won the game, 101-38. On the day, the Deacs shot 52.7 percent from the floor, while holding the Bison to 35.7 percent.

Wake Forest will play one final game against Rice on Dec. 22 before heading home for the holidays. The game against the Owls is set for 7 p.m. in Houston, Texas.
