WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team will close 2005 with a New Year's Eve game against the Kentucky at 1 p.m.

The game marks the second time in as many years that the Demon Deacons have closed the month of December against the Wildcats. Last year was the first meeting between the two teams and Wake Forest rallied back from a 10 point half time deficit, but fell, 66-61.

The Demon Deacons enter the game with a 6-4 overall record that most recently includes a 65-57 loss to Richmond. Against the Spiders, senior Liz Strunk scored 16 points and Cotelia Bond-Young had 15, but the Deacs were unable to overcome an early run that pushed Richmond ahead.

Kentucky (9-2) travels to Winston-Salem looking to rebound from a 65-55 loss to Louisville. Against the Cardinals, junior guard Jenny Pfeiffer led all scorers with 19 points. Senior forward/center Jennifer Humphrey grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds and four blocks in the loss and sophomore center Sarah Elliott added 12 points and seven rebounds.
