Wake Forest Women's Basketball Faces Charlotte at 7 p.m. in First Round of WNIT

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball program will host the University of Charlotte 49ers, Friday, March 18 at 7 p.m. in the first round of the 2005 Postseason Sportsview.tv Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT), as announced Sunday night by the tournament selection committee.
The Demon Deacons, earning their first post-season action since 1987-88, finished the regular season with a 14-13 overall record and a 3-11 mark in the conference. Most recently, Wake Forest advanced to the second round of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament after defeating Virginia Tech, 61-56 in the opening round.
Wake Forest is led by two-time second-team All-ACC selection Liz Strunk, who averaging 15.2 ppg and 5.8 rpg. Owning the highest free throw percentage on the team (84.7), Strunk has led the Deacs in scoring 12 times, including 21 games in double-digits and seven with 20. Also leading the Deacs will be third team All-ACC selection Cotelia Bond-Young, who is currently ranked sixth in the nation for three pointers made per game (3.0) and is second on the team in scoring (15.0).
The 49ers enter the WNIT with a 22-8 overall record, after a 76-73 overtime loss to Houston in the quarterfinals of the Conference-USA Tournament. In that game, Sakellie Daniels, Charlotte's leading scorer at 14.8 ppg, earned a near triple-double with 21 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. During the game, the second team All-Conference USA selection became the program's 14th player in the history of the program to earn 1,000 points.
The Postseason Sportsview.tv WNIT is an annual postseason women's college basketball tournament involving 32 of the nation's top Division I teams. The tournament is a single-elimination format with each and every game played at the site of a host school.
