Three Deacs Compete In Pan Am Junior Championships

Windsor, Ontario - Wake Forest rising sophomore Michael Bingham, representing the United States, captured the bronze medal in the decathlon at the Pan Am Junior Championship this past Saturday. Bingham, a Burlington, N.C. product, placed third after scoring 7,049.
Bingham ran a 10.83 in the 100 meters, had a long jump mark of 6.95 meters, threw 12.16 meters in the shot put, recorded a 1.81 meter jump in the high jump, and ran a 47.01 mark in the 400 meters on the first day of competition. Bingham opened day two with 14.6 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles, 36.82 meters in the discus, an 4.0 meters in the pole vault, 39.63 meters in the javelin and 4:50.64 in the 1500 meter run.
Bingham finished third behind Andres Silva of Uruguay and Cuba's Yunior Diaz Zayas.
In other competition, incoming freshman Mandy McBean competed in the women's 3000 meters and also earned a bronze medal. Representing her home nation of Canada, McBean ran a time of 9:42.75 to place behind fellow Canadian Alyson Kohlmeier and Peru's Ines Melchor.
Fellow incoming freshman, Jeremy Fisico, a middle distance runner from Windsor, Ontario, placed fifth in the 5000 meters. Fisico ran a time of 15:12.31 in the event.
