Editor's Note: Throughout the preseason, junior free safety Josh Gattis will be giving Deacon fans a glimpse of life inside preseason camp in the series, "Josh Gattis' Preseason Postcards."
About Gattis: Gattis started at free safety in all 11 games in 2004. He was the team's second-leading tackler with 71 stops and one of four defensive players to start every game. Defensive coordinator Dean Hood says having Gattis in the secondary is like having a coach on the field.
Tuesday, August 9 -- First Full Pads Practice
Today's practice was ended early due to the pouring showers that flooded the area all night. Somebody brought the "ole weather machine" out tonight to save us on some more study time for exams tomorrow. I shouldn't say thanks, but heck we all could use it.
However, practice did end just after a scuffle among some offensive players and defensive players because of the high anticipation of today's full pads practice. Everyone was eager to get out and knock some of the dust off the pads that have accumulated over the summer. The signs of scuffles are a must on the first day of full pads. It lets everyone know we're going hard and we have that fight inside of us to get over the hump of last year.
Coach Grobe ended practice with a quote stating, "26 games in the past four years have gone to seven points or less. This year there will be none." Coach has been around football longer than I have been alive, but I don't have to be an old guy to realize there's something special about this team that no one knows. Come September 1, everyone will see a new and improved Wake Forest football team. We're over the hump. Now it's time to roll. "The Rush is On".....................
