WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The defending ACC regular season champion Wake Forest men's soccer team was ranked 10th in the preseason adidas/National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll. It is the second preseason poll that has ranked the Demon Deacons among the top 20, along with College Soccer News (14th). It also marks the fifth straight season that Wake Forest has been ranked in the preseason poll.
The Demon Deacons' schedule will once again be one of the toughest in the nation with eight games against teams ranked in the NSCAA preseason top 20 and 10 against schools that reached the 2004 NCAA Tournament. Wake Forest must also play their first five games away from the comfort of Spry Stadium.
Wake Forest will open the regular season with a loaded field in the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic. Along with two-time defending National Champion and preseason #1 Indiana, #7 SMU and #16 Notre Dame will all be a part of the action. The Deacs will play the Hoosiers on Sept. 2, then face the Fighting Irish on Sept. 4.
Wake Forest then travels to Chapel Hill, N.C. for the Nike/Carolina Classic. The Demon Deacons will face South Carolina on Sept. 9 and Rutgers on Sept. 11.
Wake Forest opens ACC play against 2004 Final Four participant Duke on Sept. 18. The Demon Deacons will host ACC foes Virginia Tech (Sept. 23), Clemson (Oct. 12), North Carolina (Oct. 22) and Virginia (Nov. 4), but must also travel to Maryland (Sept. 30), Boston College (Oct. 16) and NC State (Oct. 30).
The Deacs will face Florida Atlantic (Sept. 27), Davidson (Oct. 4), Alabama A&M (Oct. 7) and Appalachian State (Oct. 19) at Spry Stadium. The Deacs lone non-conference road game is on Oct. 26 against UNC Greensboro.
Wake Forest will open the exhibition schedule at UNC Charlotte on Aug. 22. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. The Demon Deacons final tune up will be on Aug. 27 against Furman. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
