Winston-Salem, N.C. - The 21st-ranked Wake Forest women's soccer team will travel to Davidson on Sunday to take on the Wildcats. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. at Alumni Stadium on the Davidson campus.
Series history
Wake Forest and Davidson meet for the 10th time at Davidson on Sunday. The Deacons lead the series by a 9-1 margin including a 4-2 victory a year ago. The Deacs under head coach Tony da Luz have not lost to the `cats and own a 28-3 edge on the scoreboard. Wake Forest's lone loss to Davidson came in 1995 by a 3-1 score.
Last time out
The 21st-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons defeated UNC Wilmington 4-1. The Deacons scored three goals in the second half to down the Seahawks. Junior Elizabeth Remy scored a goal and recorded two assists. Deacon freshmen Amanda Lebo, Amy Smerdzinski, and Whitney Berry each registered goals in their first career game. Junior keeper Kaitlyn Doe earned her first career victory in the net.
Fearless freshmen
In their first career game, the Deacon freshman stepped up when it mattered most. Trailing 1-0 in the match, midfielder Amanda Lebo netted a goal in the 25th-minute tying the game. Lebo collected a blocked Elizabeth Remy shot and fired a shot past the keeper. In the second half, midfielder Amy Smerdzinski knocked in a shot from 20-yards out into the upper right corner of the goal. In the 83rd-minute, forward Whitney Berry rebounded her own missed shot and rocketed a shot past the Seahawks' goalie. Freshman midfielder Camelyn Dillon recorded an assist on Berry's goal.
