Women's Soccer Falls to Oregon State, 2-1

Corvallis, Ore. - The eighth-ranked Wake Forest women's soccer team lost its first game of the season Sunday to Oregon State, 1-0. With the loss, the Demon Deacons fall to 4-1-1.
Oregon State took an early 1-0 lead when Jen Crump scored a bending shot from 25 yards out in the eighth minute. Jodie Taylor was credited with an assist on the shot past Deacon goalkeeper Heather Currie.
The Beaver goal marked the only score for either team in the opening half. In the second half, Oregon State pushed the lead to 2-0 when Jetta Sudusky scored in the 51st minute. Stacey Mescher and Taylor each were credited with an assist on the goal.
The Deacons cut the lead to 2-1 when senior Sarah Kozey scored her fourth goal of the season, and third in as many games. The forward received a pass from senior Melanie Schneider and fired a shot from in front of the left post that found the back of the net.
Currie, a sophomore from Charlotte, made four saves in the match.
The Deacons had 18 players see action in the game, with Kozey leading the team in shots with four. Jayme Leigh Cargnoni, Ashley Spooner, Schneider, and Kristina Hanley each fired off a shot in the contest.
The next Demon Deacon match will be Friday, Sept. 16, at UNC Greensboro. The Deacons and Spartans will kick off at 7 p.m. The next home contest is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 22, against ACC foe Virginia. Kickoff with the Cavaliers will be at 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium.
