Jim Grobe,
On the
I told our team it's just an amazing thing, I don't know what the cause is. We are up and down on both sides of the ball week in week out. We haven't put an offense and defense together yet. When our offense gives a strong performance the defense doesn't play well sand then when the defense comes up with a strong performance the offense plays poorly. I don't know where we are with that, I don't know why we can't get both sides together. We just really played poorly tonight offensively.
On
We ran a little option tonight and we got some checks and some predetermined stuff based on what we saw and we just saw some looks that made us run some plays other than option and I didn't like that part of what we were doing tonight. I thought we needed to have a better option. We just didn't play well. I don't want to take anything away from
On his frustration:
It was shades of
On Maryland:
"Their guys up front are big and quick, so it was definitely tough to get the run game going. We just have to go back to the basics next week."
On the 14 point swing:
"That defintely hurts. You just can't get down and hang your head. You have to go back out there and keep pushing."
Quoting Wake Forest freshman offensive guard Chris DeGeare
On learning from the older players:
"They're just telling me to keep working hard and keep doing what I do best. That is just going out there and playing football. Other than that, that is pretty much it."
On how to get a win:
"We just have to come out and execute. We have to come out and get on the same page offensively, defensively and special teams. When we get it all to come together, we'll win football games."
Quoting Wake Forest senior running back Chris Barclay
On Maryland:
"We knew they were going to come out and load the box and it posed a problem for us because we just weren't physical enough. We just didn't take care of what we needed to take care of. We weren't physical enough and we did't get much push. We just didn't play smart football, every position we didn't play smart football. They played their gaps really well."
On rebounding for the next game:
"We just have to play. We have to look at film, look at what we did wrong and learn. The emphasis is on learning. We have to learn from our mistakes. Like coach Grobe said, it was like we were drawing things up on the board and reemphasizing things we had gone over a hundred times in practice as a unit. We just have to learn from our mistakes."
Ralph Friedgen,
On the importance of the victory:
"The more you lose the easier it is to lose. The more you win the easier it is to win. With a young team, I think it there was a confidence thing there whether they could do it our not. So, we are excited."
On the defense responded to
"Every one made such a big deal about them being the top rushing team in the conference and how we can't stop the rush."
On his thoughts on instant replay:
"I was wondering if there was even a guy up there. I saw a bunch of plays that could have been reviewed. I wondered if they were awake and today there was an overdose."
On
"I thought Keon (Lattimore) really took a step forward today. He made some guys miss which was what we needed bad. That is the type of back I thought he was. He showed a burst today and I still would like him to take one all the way."
On
"I thought it was wonderful. I thought there was a lot of holding from what I saw, fortunately they got that one.
On the game:
"The defense played a whole heck of a game, and we played a full 60 minutes of football, and I'm very proud of the defense. It leads us into next week against Virginia, a very tough game. We look forward to that game. We just wanted a W any way we could get it, we wanted to play good defensive football. The guys just wanted it. We were away from home and we just wanted to win."
Quoting Maryland left guard Donnie Woods
On the defense:
"It was a great, big step for them. They kept the number one rushing offense in the ACC and came in and did a good job in shutting them down. Our defense got its confidence back after this game. They gave us some opportunities down in our redzone. We didn't come away with as many touchdowns as we wanted to, but we got points on the board. They just did a good job tonight."
On the offense:
"I think there's one or two guys not doing their job or having a mental breakdown, missing a blocking assignment or overthrowing a ball. I think we're getting there. It will be really interesting to see what we do next week against Virginia. We're putting points on the board and the defense is getting key stops. So hopefully, we'll just keep it going."
Quoting Maryland tailback Keon Lattimore
On scoring the touchdown:
"Maybe the other guys get the same reads. I just wanted to get in the endzone. We had 150 yards rushing and I'll take that with the win."
Quoting Maryland tailback Lance Ball
On the game and playing with Keon Lattimore:
"It will boost our confidence before going into Virginia. It is nice to go get a `W'. It helps a lot. When one of us gets tired, we just tap out and keep our legs feeling really good. We have certain packages when Keon and I are on the field. It's just our running styles. I would say its a combination of us and the offensive line. We got the win, and we'd do anything just to get a win."
