WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest junior Ryan Solle was named the Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week on Tuesday. Solle was also selected to the Soccer America and College Soccer News National Team of the Week.
Solle, a native of Broadway, N.C., continued his torrid start to the 2005 season. The co-captain added four assists in victories over St. Joseph's and Virginia Tech. Solle had three assists in the 5-0 rout of the Hawks. It was the second time this season the midfielder had posted three in one game.
Solle leads the team, ACC and country with 10 assists and has registered at least one in six consecutive matches. The 10 assists not only give Solle 20 for his career, which is tied for sixth on the all-time assist list, but also equals the Wake Forest single-season school record for assists. He is only the fourth player in program history to reach the 10 assist plateau in one season and Solle has accomplished the feat in just eight games.
Wake Forest returns to action this Friday night with a huge ACC battle at Maryland. Kickoff with the Terps is scheduled for 8 p.m.
