Winston-Salem, N.C. - Hello Again!

This is Mel and Sarah, filling you in on the women's soccer team. It has been a long time since the last entry, so we'll try and remember as best we can. School started which meant no more preseason, but a lot more reading. We also started the season which meant fewer practices and a lot more of the fun stuff - the games.

We are really excited with how the season has begun. The first weekend we scored 9 goals in 2 games, and this past weekend we had a great showing at the Wake Forest/ACC/WCC Challenge.

Tying Santa Clara on Friday night showed our ability to work as a team and play hard for 110 minutes! Playing well against good teams is always fun. The intensity of that game will help shape the expectations for the rest of our season, especially during ACC play. Our win Sunday afternoon against San Diego was a true team effort, with five different players scoring against a quality opponent.

This week we are continuing to practice hard to prepare for our trip out west. We have established Tuesdays as our fitness day, which naturally means that it's our most favorite day of the week. As much as we joke about it, we do realize how important it has been, and will continue to be throughout the season. (For you Tony)

On Thursday we leave for our weekend away playing at Washington State and Oregon State. Since we already had the longest bus ride ever, we asked the coaches if we could set the record for most flights taken in a weekend; they rewarded us with: three flights on Thursday, one Saturday, and two Sunday (one being a red eye). In all seriousness, we are extremely excited to get out on the field again. Washington State and Oregon State will be well prepared and ready for action on Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

Last, but not least we have some individual people to recognize. First of all, Elizabeth Remy for being ACC player of the week, Soccer Buzz and Soccer America team of the week. Secondly, Sarah tied the school career goals for the school record against San Diego. Third, any member of Keisha Garrick's Defense for Life (D4L) team of the week, and finally Tripp for setting the Spry run world record.

Thanks for reading, and special thanks to all the fans we had at the games this weekend. Friday was a lot of fun for us, and hopefully for you. Hope to see you at the next home game on September 22nd against ACC rival Virginia!
