Winston-Salem, N.C. - Wake Forest junior Keisha Garrick was named to the Soccer Buzz Magazine National Elite Team of the Week on Wednesday. The defender from Toronto, Ont., anchored a back line that shut down No. 5 Santa Clara and San Diego in the Wake Forest/ACC/WCC Challenge.
Wake Forest battled Santa Clara to a 0-0 tie with the entire back line of Garrick, Jayme Leigh Cargnoni, Megan Upchurch and Nichole Lecznar playing the entire 110 minutes. The Demon Deacon defense held the Broncos to just two shots on goal during the match. On Sunday, the Deacons held San Diego to just one shot en route to a 5-1 victory.
For her performance, Garrick was named the Defensive MVP of the challenge as well as making the all-tournament team.
Garrick joins fellow junior Elizabeth Remy in earning honors from Soccer Buzz Magazine. Last week, the publication named the forward from Norman, Okla., to the Elite Team of the Week following her two goal, five assist performance against UNC Wilmington and Davidson.
Garrick and Wake Forest return to action this weekend as they travel to face Washington State and Oregon State on the road. The Deacons will kick off against the Cougars at 6 p.m. on Friday night and at 4 p.m. on Sunday against the Beavers.
