NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Wake Forest senior offensive tackle Steve Vallos was recognized Friday by FoxSports.com and Sports Illustrated as a midseason All-American. Fox Sports tabbed Vallos as a first team selection and Sports Illustrated listed him as a second team pick.
Vallos is the veteran leader of the Wake Forest offense, having started all 40 games in his career for the Demon Deacons.
Vallos was the only ACC offensive tackle honored by the publications and one of two conference offensive linemen.
This season, Vallos has alternated at right and left tackle to compensate for absence of injured starting left tackle Arby Jones. Vallos has played 358 snaps with a grade of 90% and 33.5 knockdown blocks. The native of Boardman, Ohio, had a season-best performance against Syracuse when he graded out at 95 percent with 7.5 knockdowns. That effort led to ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week honors.
Wake Forest is 5-1 for just the ninth time in school history and the first time since 1987.
The Deacons travel to NC State on Saturday for a noon kickoff (Lincoln Financial Sports/Raycom) against the Wolfpack.
