Postgame Quotes

Wake Forest vs. Elon

November 17, 2006

Wake Forest Head Coach Skip Prosser:

On the game:

"Tonight was a good result for us. I think we guarded better than guarded all year. We've had lots of hard practices the past few weeks as well as three games. Vanderbilt presents us with a great challenge Tuesday."

On Freshman Ishmael Smith:

"Ish is a good young man, emphasis on young. He has better days than others. He's sometimes very careless, and he needs a lot of work. He has an insatiable appetite to learn."

On Kyle Visser:

"He's very confident, and his teammates have confidence in him. He's been working very hard"

Senior Kyle Visser

On the game:

"Tonight was a good test coming off of a good road win. I'm glad we didn't overlook this team. I think we played really well."

On the guards' contribution:

"I think 50 percent of my shots come from Ishmael Smith and the other guards. He sets me up for easy dunks and lay-ups. At least 10 points of mine tonight came from the guards. I'm getting good looks. It makes life easy."

On his success and confidence:

"I've started out well in the past and gotten complacent. I don't want that to happen this year so I try to work hard every day in practice, especially as the ACC season comes around."

Senior Michael Drum

On the uncertainty of starters for tonight's game:

"It didn't throw us off. We're all playing well as a team."

On Ishmael Smith being voted most surprising player by his teammates in the media guide:

"We saw stuff this summer from him that not everyone else got to see. He creates extra shots and lay-ups night in and night out. To think that he broke the freshman assist record (11) is incredible."

Sophomore Kevin Swinton

On his positioning:

"We work every day in practice on spacing and coach always tells us to duck hard."

On the schedule being overloaded in November:

"I feel like we condition for this all year so in times like March we'll still have good legs."

Elon Head Coach Ernie Nestor:

On the game:

"You have to fight when you are in the position that we were in. You don't have much control over a game like that, and you just have to keep playing. We are in the process of growing as a team. I felt that Devan (Carter) made significant growth tonight, and I felt the most comfortable with the ball in his hands."

"I'm not proud of our effort. We were forever doing nothing. We spent a lot of energy on the court and didn't have any results. It took a while for our guys to get adjusted. We just need to make shots and when you don't make shots its hard to beat a team of better quality."
