Recap | Final Stats | Notes

Wake Forest head coach Mike Petersen:

On Virginia guard Sharnee Zoll:
"I thought Sharnee Zoll did a great job of dictating the game. She did as good a job as anybody we've played all year at that position of dictating at the offensive end and we didn't do a good enough job as a group of staying in front of her and keeping her out of the middle of the floor where she can shoot the ball. She did a great job of penetrating and broke our defense down completely."

On Wake Forest's 3 point shooting:
"I thought they did a good job, they really got into us and were physical and did a very good job of getting into our cutters. The biggest thing in the first half and for parts of the second half they did a great job of forcing us to start our offense so far from the goal to where our cuts to the basket were so long that they didn't have to respect the three point shot that much."

On it is crunch time in the season:
"It's been crunch time. It's always crunch time. You only get fourteen games, they are all worth one. I think there is a little more focus this time of year because people are starting to look at the ACC tournament. You only get so many chances to go out and compete and you can't take those opportunities lightly or waste them."

On Liz Strunk's game:
"She did a great job of getting to the free throw line. Offensively I think she played pretty good tonight. She gets 26 points on 11 field goal attempts that's pretty efficient."

Virginia head coach Debbie Ryan

On having two key players with 2 fouls in the first half:
"I thought they got the quick fouls and I just had to get them out of the game but I really couldn't afford to have them on the bench so I had to play (Takisha) Granberry in the first half a little bit. Abby (Robertson) was trying but it was just too fast of a game for her. They have guards at the post positions so it makes it a little bit different, a little bit harder."

On trying not to lead too early:
"I want to lead, that's not the issue. I think we had to learn to play from behind a little bit. And it was great to see our team respond today the way that they did. I had wanted them to step up and I thought they did a great job of stepping up. We kept a little bit of a lead and they scored on a three and we came right back at them with a two and we didn't really relinquish the lead from there. So it's a really good sign for our team."

On a quote during the game, "That's what I'm talking about":
"We played in that six game stretch where we didn't win a game, but we got better. A lot of people watch you on TV and all you think about is wins and losses when you're not on the team, but we knew that we were getting better and we knew that this team was taking huge steps forward and now we're proving it. We're getting some great scoring from players that are now settling into a good offensive rhythm, shooting the ball a whole lot better, and it was just good to see that today because we needed that."
