Deirdre Naughton Named ACC Rookie of the Week

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest freshman Deirdre Naughton was named the ACC Rookie of the week for the second time in the last three weeks. She becomes just the third Demon Deacon to earn the honors multiple times in a season and first since Tracy Connor in 1992-93.
For the week, Naughton averaged 24.3 points per game, shooting 47.2 percent from the floor (25-for-53) and 50.0 percent from beyond the arc (10-for-20). She also connected on 81.2 percent of her free throw attempts, going 13-for-16 from the line, and averaged 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game.
Naughton started her week with a Wake Forest freshman record 37 points in a 100-51 rout of Savannah State. The rookie guard went 12-for-21 (57.1 percent) from the field, including a 4-for-6 effort from 3-point range. She also hit nine of her 10 free throw attempts and pulled down eight rebounds to go with four assists and five steals.
Against Florida State on Thursday, Naughton scored 26 points, again draining four 3-pointers. She was 10-for-18 from the floor (55.6 percent) and had four rebounds and four steals in the Demon Deacons' loss.
Naughton wrapped up her week with 10 points against Virginia Tech, hitting two more triples. The Winnetka, Ill., native broke the Wake Forest freshman record for 3-pointers in a season, and now has 56 on the year.
