Two Demon Deacons Earn All-America Honors

Wake Forest senior Kyle Reifers was named second team All-America and sophomore Webb Simpson earned honorable mention honors as PING and the Golf Coaches Association of America announced the men's golf All-American teams today.

Reifers, who recently finished second in the NCAA Championships, earns All-American honors for the second time. He was a third team selection in 2005. Simpson, the 2005 ACC Rookie of the Year, was named honorable mention for the second straight year. Both players were instrumental in Wake Forest finishing tied for third at the recent NCAA Championships.

Reifers produced a team best 72.05 stroke average in 2005-06, leading Wake Forest to a No. 12 final national ranking. Reifers shot par or better in 58.1 percent of his rounds last season and his individual round counted toward the team score in 37 of 40 rounds.

Simpson had a stroke average of 72.26 and he finished second in three different tournaments in 2005-06. Simpson and Reifers were both previously named first team All-ACC.

While no ACC players were named first team All-American, the league put three players on the second team: Reifers, Duke's Ryan Blaum and Georgia Tech's Cameron Tringale. Three ACC players were named to the third team.

A Wake Forest players has earned All-American honors -- first, second or third team and honorable mention -- a remarkable 81 times.
