Deacons Picked To Finish Sixth In ACC's Atlantic Division

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - The Atlantic Coast Conference Sports Media Association tabbed Wake Forest to finish sixth in the Atlantic Division this football season. The results were released Monday at the ACC Football Kickoff at the Sawgrass Resort in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The media picked Miami to beat Florida State in the 2006 ACC Football Championship Game in Jacksonville on December 2.
Last season the Deacons were picked to finish last in the Atlantic, but finished in a tie for fourth with Maryland and NC State.
In other voting at the ACC Football Kickoff, the media chose Georgia Tech junior wide receiver Calvin Johnson as the league's Preseason Player of the Year. Johnson received 50 of the possible 65 votes.
Wake Forest running back Chris Barclay, now of the Cleveland Browns, was the 2005 ACC Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year.
The Deacons return a league-high 18 starters, including 10 on defense, seven on offense and one specialist.
