WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Today's Practice (#7): Full pads
Weather: 87 degrees and humid
Practice Notes: Playing in humid conditions, the Deacons simulated an overtime period that was highlighted by a stellar 15-yard catch by WR Kevin Marion from QB Brett Hodges. RB Micah Andrews had a nice 12-yard touchdown run, followed by a two-point conversion by RB De'Angelo Bryant who waltzed into the endzone untouched.
Snapshot: Tomorrow night's practice marks the first scrimmage for Wake Forest, giving the entire team at chance to gauge their progress. QB Benjamin Mauk is excited for the 11-on-11, full contact scrimmage.
"I am looking forward to have the coaches off the field, to have real referees and to put some points on the board. Our offense looks good right now and the scrimmage tomorrow is going to be a good way to see where we are."
Unlike each of the past two years, Mauk is not competing to be the starting quarterback. He is a veteran at the position. That doesn't mean he'll change his work ethic.
"I still have to go out there and compete every day just like the job is on the line. I have to compete with everyone because it is that competition that makes everyone better. If I am just going to rest on my laurels and realize that I am the starting quarterback, then I am not going to get any better."
Injury Report: DE Matt Robinson (knee) remains out with injury.
