2006 Wake Forest Preseason Football Report
Wake Forest took the morning off from practice and went through two hours of drills the afternoon. Coming off an intra-squad srimmage last night, the Deacons limited full contact today.
Today's Practice: 3-5 p.m. Full pads.
Weather: 83 degrees, sunny, 41 percent humidity.
Practice Notes: "We are a little beat up," head coach Jim Grobe said less than 24 hours after the team's first intra-squad scrimmage last night. "We had a great meeting/film session today and we got some work in, but I didn't feel any need to keep them out here more than two hours."
Snapshot: The season opener opener, now just over two weeks away, is extremely important for every team. So, when will the Deacons begin to specifically focus on the Syracuse Orange, Wake's Sept. 2 opponent?
"Probably nine or 10 days out," Grobe said. "We have our final scrimmage next Wednesday and we'll probably start to look at Syracuse the next day. They have a new offensive coordinator (Brian White), so we'll have to be prepared for just about anything."
And how does Grobe feel about last night's scrimmage? "Too many mistakes," he said. "It was your typical first scrimmage. I think we had some good individual performances, but offensively and defensively we have a lot of work to do."
Injury Report: Matt Robinson (knee), Jamil Smith (knee), Trey Bailey (knee) and Matthew Brim (shoulder) did not practice today. Smith, Bailey and Brim are considered day-to-day.
Next Practice: 10:00am-11:30am -- campus 7:15pm-9:30pm -- campus
