WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest senior Ryan Solle picked up what hopes to be the first of numerous honors Monday as the midfielder was named second team Preseason All-American by College Soccer News.
Solle was one of five ACC players selected to the second team. Michael Videira of Duke was the lone first team choice from the conference.
A native of Broadway, N.C., Solle put together a record-setting season a year ago. He led the ACC and finished fourth in the NCAA with 13 assists. Solle not only became the fourth player in Demon Deacon soccer history to eclipse 10 assists in a single-season, but he set a new single-season assist record. He bested the previous mark of 10 shared by Vicente Bastidas (2001), Scott Sealy (2004) and Gary Kingsley (1981).
For his efforts, Solle earned second team All-ACC, second team NSCAA All-South Region and first team All-America by Top Drawer Soccer.
Solle enters his senior campaign with 23 career assists -- just six shy of the all-time Wake Forest record held by former All-American and current D.C. United midfielder Justin Moose.
The Demon Deacons open their 2006 regular season this weekend with the Wake Forest adidas Classic at Spry Stadium, a round-robin event that features No. 1 North Carolina, UCF and William & Mary.
