WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest junior Julian Valentin was named Preseason All-American by Soccer America on Monday. The defender is one of seven players from the ACC honored on the squad.

Valentin, a native of Lancaster, Pa., played and started in 22 games last season. He was named second team All-American by Top Drawer Soccer. Valentin tallied three goals and added one assist. His lone assist of the season proved to be the gamewinner in the NCAA Tournament victory over Old Dominion. Valentin helped the Deacons post nine shutouts in 2005 and record a goals against average of 0.98. In fact, Wake Forest went a span of 241:45 without surrendering a goal and did not even allow St. Joseph's a single shot on Sept. 20.

Valentin missed this past spring after undergoing ankle surgery, but he returned mid-July and participated with the U.S. Under-20 National Team. He started both of the team's matches against Canada and served as captain for the opener. The U.S. defeated Canada, 2-1, in the first meeting, but walked away with a 1-1 draw in the second match.
