WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No.1 Wake Forest men's soccer team will host local rival Elon on Tuesday night at Spry Stadium beginning at 7 p.m.
The Demon Deacons (7-0-0, 2-0-0) defeated Atlantic Coast Conference foe Maryland in their last outing, taking a 2-0 win that marked the team's fifth shutout of the season.
Last season the Phoenix (5-2-2, 2-0-0 SoCon) had its first winning season in D-I action since making the division switch in 1999. After opening the 2006 season 6-1-0, Head Coach Darren Powell's squad penetrated the national polls, peaking at No. 22 in Soccer America.
"Elon is a very talented team that is looking for a big win to get over that hump," Head Coach Jay Vidovich said. "We have to come out ready to play hard."
The Deacons are certainly a marked team, as Monday's polls revealed the team is still on top for the fifth consecutive week. The Deacs are also the only top 25-ranked team that boasts an undefeated, no-draw record.
The Phoenix recently shutout SoCon rival Davidson 2-0 and posted a 1-1 double-overtime draw with the ACC's Clemson in Clemson, S.C.
