WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - It's time to break out the tie-dye and officially open the 2007-08 Demon Deacon season for the Wake Forest women's basketball team, who will kick it off with the USC Spartans at the Joel Coliseum on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Deacons have two home exhibition wins under their belts, the first over Anderson on November 3 (67-50) and a follow up victory over NC Central (74-35) on November 7. Sophomore Mekia Valentine combined for 31 points between both contests while senior Christen Brown pulled down a combined 18 boards.
Wake Forest head coach Mike Petersen featured Brown, Alex Tchangoue, Tiffany Roulhac and Courteney Morris as starters in both pre-season games, while Valentine and Corrine Groves split the other opening minutes.
On Tuesday the Deacons will face USC Upstate, who is currently in the midst of its first year of Division I status in the Atlantic Sun conference. The Spartans opened the new division era over the weekend with a 74-59 loss to Southeastern Conference power Kentucky on the Wildcat hardwood. In 2006-07 the Spartans finished 11-17 overall.
Tuesday night's season opener will be broadcast locally on 98. 1 FM.
