Wake Forest vs. NC State
11/17/07
BB&T Field
Wake Forest Head Coach Jim Grobe
On securing a bowl appearance...
"It's a great feeling. We're trying to build a program and not to be a good team every once in a while. We knew how important this was as a coaching staff. We knew we had to play good and win this game. We felt like the team played very well. All in all, our guys knew what was at stake, but we didn't belabor it this week. We're happy to have somewhere to go in the postseason and play. We've played a really tough schedule and I'm proud of where we are now."
On Jordan Williams' touchdown catch...
"That gave us some breathing room again. We brought Jordan up because he's a big-play guy. I don't think any play we made tonight was any bigger than Jordan's. Our biggest concern was that we would bring him up for a game or two and he would get hurt, so him catching that pass tonight was just validation that we made the right decision."
On Aaron Curry's play tonight...
"He's a big-play guy. The thing I'm most proud of with Aaron is that he's a big-play guy within our scheme. He's where he belongs and when he has an opportunity he takes advantage of it. He's pretty special. I think he only missed two plays tonight."
Wake Forest Quarterback Riley Skinner
On the emotional impact of Jordan Williams' touchdown catch...
We needed something because you could tell they were getting the momentum, their offense was starting to click and our defense was getting tired. That route is not the first look, it's more of an intermediate route and I saw the corner press up on Williams and he got a step on the defender and then went up for it and made a great play. I don't know if he could have made a better play.
On the state of the Wake Forest offense...
"In certain games, it's been where we want it to be. The big thing that we're missing right now is consistency. We've have games where we've been clicking and then other games where we've been relying on our defense. It's tough on our offensive coordinator when we're not clicking. We know we need to be consistent in order to be successful."
On the importance of the game...
"It was good to play at home, in front of our home crowd. For the seniors, it was an emotional game. We were sick of losing. We really needed a win and if we'd lost this game, the morale of the team would have been pretty low. This is a big win for our momentum and our team and it's good to send the seniors away with a great game."
Wake Forest Wide Receiver Kenny Moore
On playing his last home game...
"I got emotional today, I was surprised. It goes by really quick. Right before I ran out, it just hit me. It was great to get a win. It was great to see all the fan support and to have my family here and I'm going to remember today for the rest of my life."
On being the best team in the state...
"To me it's a big deal. We have bragging rights in the state two years in a row. It's a great accomplishment and I'm happy about it."
On the game next week at Vanderbilt...
"This hasn't been the season we wanted to have, but its still been very successful. We definitely want to get a win next week, get a bid to a good bowl, and finish the season strong. There's still a lot at stake."
On the progress of the program...
"When I came on my official visit, Coach Grobe told me he wanted me to be part of the change and that was the big thing for me, I wanted to be the change. We have definitely changed the program. People don't look at Wake Forest the same way anymore and it's a great feeling to know that I've been a part of it. "
Wake Forest Fullback De'Angelo Bryant
On the switch from tailback to fullback...
"It's been a transition. I've had to mature a lot more in terms of watching film and working with the coaches, them showing me little things that can help me improve each week. It gives me a boost of confidence each week, knowing that I'm the guy that can help our other runners break for more yardage. Now I fly around and look for someone to hit and it's been real fun. Watching Josh [Adams] run by has been different but it's been real fun."
On being the best team in North Carolina...
"I really haven't gotten used to it. I'll learn to appreciate it farther down the road. It's a really big deal for the in-state guys, for the program, and especially for the fans. I've learned to respect the in-state rivalry games because for these games, you have to throw the records and through them out because it's going to be a physical game."
On preparation for this game after the Clemson loss...
"I was very disappointed and as a team we felt embarrassed. We've had close games but for Clemson to blow us out, we felt like we were a better team than how we played. We knew this was a big game because it could set us apart for the bowl season. We still have one more game we need to take care of."
On the changes the program has undergone...
"Just like any program, there are ups and downs. I made a commitment to this program so I'm very pleased to see how much this community, this team, and the fans have changed so I'm very proud to say that I'm a Demon Deacon."
NC State Player Quotes
Jeremy Gray - RS-JR - CB
On the game...
"We got off to a slow start. We weren't making plays. We didn't get the job done. I'm pretty disappointed."
On the end of the four-game win-streak...
"Our streak has come to an end but we're looking towards the next game. We're just going to come out and take our time and play football like we were playing the last four games."
Daniel Evans - RS-JR - QB
On bouncing back from the loss...
"I don't really know exactly what we did. I think Maryland and our team are in the same boat. It comes down to the last game of the season so we don't really have a choice to comeback hard."
Darrell Blackman - SR - WR
On NC State's strong start in the second half...
"The second half we came out and turned it around. We made some big plays but they capitalized off our turnovers and made some big plays of their own."
On the upcoming game....
"We're fighting to stay alive. We have to go out there and put it all on the line next Saturday. We've been through a lot the first half of the season then the second half we fought back and turned things around. We can still do it, we just have to believe in ourselves and keep making plays."
On Wake's Senior Night energy...
"We knew that they were going to come out ready to play. We came out a little slugglish and they came out pumped up for senior night. We were dragging behind them the whole night."
