The Wake Forest women's basketball team will look to heat up the dreary Chicago night as it faces Northwestern in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Demon Deacons (5-1) are entering the contest riding a 3-0 run from the 2007 Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Northwestern (2-4) recently defeated cross-town rival Loyola (Chicago) 63-47 on the Wildcat campus.

The meeting will be the first for the two teams.

The 2007-08 season is the first for the women's basketball Big Ten/ACC Challenge, though the Challenge has been running on the men's side since 1999. This year's series is the first of a four-year agreement between the two conferences.

The Big Ten/ACC Challenge matches 11 teams from each conference in head-to-head competition, traditionally on the first Wednesday, Thursday and Friday after Thanksgiving. Following Michigan's 65-50 win over Miami on November 19, the Big Ten holds a 1-0 lead this year. Besides the Wake Forest contest on Wednesday, Georgia Tech will face Iowa and on Thursday, Michigan State hosts Clemson, Illinois heads to NC State, and Purdue travels to North Carolina.

Friday features four Challenge games as Indiana hosts Florida State, Virginia Tech hosts Minnesota, Ohio State faces Maryland, and Wisconsin travels to Virginia. The inaugural Challenge concludes on Sunday when Penn State hosts Duke.
