WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team will return to the Joel Coliseum hardwood this Sunday at 1 p.m. to host Rice University. The game is the first home game for the Demon Deacons since November 15.
After falling to James Madison in the first contest of the five-game road swing, the Demon Deacons (6-1) posted four consecutive wins, including an upset over No. 10 Texas A&M at the Paradise Jam Tournament in the Virgin Islands. Most recently, the Deacs held Northwestern to just 45 points in Wake's Big Ten/ACC Challenge game in Evanston, Ill (60-45).
Rice (5-4) opened the season with a four-game win streak but followed with several tough road losses, including 62-59 defeat to ACC foe Clemson at the Coors Classic in Colorado. In their last outing, the Owls fell 70-53 to Furman in Greenville, S.C.
The meeting is only the second between the Deacons and the Owls. On December 22, 2005, former Deacons Deirdre Naughton, Cotelia Bond-Young, and Liz Strunk all scored in double figures to help lead WFU to a 69-67 victory in Houston.
