WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest freshman guard Jeff Teague was named the ACC Rookie of the Week after leading the Demon Deacons to a defeat of Bucknell in the team's only action last week.
Teague came off the bench to score a season-high 16 points in the Deacons' 72-56 win against the Bison on Sunday. The Indianapolis, Ind., native made 6-of-10 from the floor, including a perfect 2-for-2 mark from three-point range.
In addition, Teague had four steals, four rebounds and two assists in 28 minutes of action. He did not commit a single turnover in the game.
On the season, Teague is averaging 8.4 points per game and leads all ACC freshmen with 22 steals. He ranks second overall in the conference with 2.44 steals per game.
Teague becomes the first Deacon to earn ACC Rookie of the Week honors since Ishmael Smith won the award on Nov. 14, 2006. Thirty-two Deacons have received the honor a total of 54 times.
Wake Forest is currently 6-3 on the year and is set to host the University of South Florida on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
