WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team defeated Winston-Salem State 84-40 at the Joel Coliseum on Friday night.
Senior Christen Brown had the best performance of her college career, setting a new personal record on the glass, with 11 boards, and a new record on the court with 21 points, hitting nine-of-13. The contest marks Brown's first ever double-double.
With the win, the Demon Deacons improved to 11-2, while the Lady Rams, led by Talneshia Kee, who put up 11 points, fell to 0-9.
The game is the second consecutive contest where the Deacons have held their opponent to 40 points or less. On Wednesday, Wake Forest stifled the College of Charleston 70-39. The contest is the seventh of the season where the WFU defense has held opponents to less than 50 points.
Freshman Camille Collier shot four-for-six from beyond the arc and set career highs in assists (6) and steals (5) in her longest campaign of the season, with a playing time of 34 minutes.
In the opening 90 seconds of the game, junior Alex Tchangoue hit a 3-point basket to break a 2-2 tie. The Lady Rams were unable to surpass or catch the Demon Deacons for the remainder of the contest.
Even with a 29-point lead at the half, the Deacons continued to push themselves in the final period. Wake Forest out-scored the Lady Rams 26-4 in the paint and netted 18 points off turnovers to nearly double Wake Forest's lead by the end of the second half
The game showcased Wake's dramatic improvement from the 2006-07, where the Lady Rams took the Demon Deacons into overtime at the Joel.
Wake Forest will have a nine day break from competition and return to the hardwood on December 30 to face Longwood at 5:30 p.m.
