Deacons Host Irish in NCAA Quarterfinals

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's soccer team will host Notre Dame on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the NCAA Championship Quarterfinals at Spry Stadium.
The game marks only the second time in program history that the Demon Deacons (19-2-2) have lasted through the first three rounds of the tournament. The 2006 campaign was the first year the Deacons hit the milestone and advanced to the semifinals after defeating Santa Clara 3-1 in Winston-Salem.
The Irish are 14-4-5 for the 2007 season. Notre Dame opened this years' national championship with a 2-1 win over Oakland in South Bend and followed with a 2-0 shutout of Santa Clara in the third round.
In Big East action, Notre Dame finished 7-0-4 and faced Connecticut in the conference tournament finals on November 18, where it fell 2-0.
The Demon Deacons lead the all-time series with the Irish 3-0. The teams last met at the Adidas/IU Credit Union Classic in Bloomington, Ind, on September 16, 2005. Then No. 18 Wake took a 1-0 OT win over the No. 16 Irish with Michael Lahoud's golden goal in the 97th minute.
