WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -
2006 Wake Forest graduate Melanie Schneider has signed a professional contract to play in Germany for FFC Brauweiler. The Peachtree City, Ga., native has been training with the team for two weeks and is making a positive early impact on the team.
A midfielder while playing for Wake, Schneider was moved to right back in her first scrimmage with the team and gave a solid performance.
"It's taking me awhile to adjust to the girls, the way they play and the surfaces," Schneider commented. "We practice outdoors on a dirt field, but it's more like small pebbles. The surface is very hard, and the ball doesn't move the same as it would on grass, so it's hard for me to play. If you take off on a sprint, you have to leave like three yards of sliding space if you want to change direction. So being fast doesn't really help yet. I am totally thrown off sometimes. It's very interesting. I am getting more used to it every day though, so that is good."
The team will resume playing league matches in late February and continue through June.
