WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Gary Clark, a 6-4 wing player from Monteverde Academy in Florida, officially signed a letter-of-intent to attend Wake Forest and play basketball for the Demon Deacons in 2007-08. Wake Forest head coach Skip Prosser confirmed today that Clark's letter was received.
Clark is the second Monteverde Academy player to join the Deacons in as many years. Wake Forest freshman L.D. Williams is a Monteverde alumni. Although they were not teammates, Clark and Williams both played under coach Kevin Sutton.
"We are excited about Gary," Prosser said. "He has potential to be an outstanding offensive weapon and he was well-schooled at Monteverde Academy.
"We have been pleased with the development of L.D. Williams and we are very hopeful that Gary can contribute as a freshman."
Clark averaged 14.5 points and 3.4 rebounds for Monteverde and shot 48 percent from the floor, 43 percent from 3-point range and 85 percent from the free-throw line. A Sarasota (Fla.) native, Clark transferred to Monteverde for his senior season.
Monteverde finished 30-0 last season and was ranked No. 1 among national teams by Hoops USA and No. 4 by USA Today. Others who played for Monteverde last season were Solomon Alibi and Jean Michel Yotio, both of whom will play at Division I schools next season.
Clark recently played for the U.S. All-Stars in the annual Capital Classic in College Park, Md. He started, scored 10 points and had two assists in the April 5th game.
Clark is the second player to sign with Wake Forest. Jeff Teague, a 6-1 guard from Pike High School in Indiana, signed in the fall.
