The 2007 Wake Forest women's soccer schedule was announced on Monday and features a rigorous slate that will test the team as it strives for its 11th straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Deacons will face 10 opponents that reached the 2006 NCAA Tournament, including ACC rival and reigning national champion North Carolina.
The Deacs will open their season with an exhibition match on the road against Big 10 foe Ohio State on Aug. 21. The preseason match with the Buckeyes will serve as the team's only tuneup before the regular season.
Wake is then scheduled to participate in two tournaments -- the University of San Diego Tournament from Aug. 31-Sept. 2 as well as the Virginia Tech Classic a week later from Sept. 7-9. Wake will play San Diego, the host institution of the USD Tournament, on Aug. 31 and turn around to face off with Pepperdine on Sept. 2. The Deacs will play Loyola College (Md.) on Sept. 7 in Blacksburg, Va., and then SEC power Tennessee on Sept. 9 as part of the Classic.
In between the tournaments, Wake will square off against Big West regular season champion Long Beach State at home on Sept. 5 in the first ever meeting between the two schools.
Wake will play the Louisville Cardinals at home on Sept. 12 and then make the short trip to UNC Greensboro on Sept. 15 for a 7 p.m. match against the Spartans. Both teams were members of the 2006 NCAA Tournament field.
A home game with Brown will await the Deacs on Sept. 21 before travelling to West Virginia two days later for a match with the Mountaineers on Sept. 23 to close out non-conference play.
Wake will then return home for its ACC opener with Virginia Tech. Three days later on Sept. 30, the Deacs will look to exact a bit of revenge at home against the Virginia Cavaliers, the team that knocked Wake out of the 2006 NCAA Tournament in the second round.
Following the game with UVa, the Deacs will be tested by three straight road contests -- Maryland on Oct. 5, Boston College on Oct. 7 and North Carolina on Oct. 14.
Wake will return home to face Duke on Oct. 18 before another road trip to Clemson on Oct. 21. A home match with 2006 College Cup participant Florida State will await the Deacs on Oct. 26.
The team will close out the regular season with an away game against NC State on Nov. 1 and a home match with Miami on Nov. 4. The 2007 ACC Tournament will be played from Nov. 7-11 at the SAS Soccer Complex in Cary, N.C.
