The 2007 Wake Forest men's soccer schedule was announced on Wednesday and once again the Deacs will be tested as they strive to match and surpass their unprecedented success from 2006. The Deacons will face nine opponents that reached the 2006 NCAA Tournament highlighted by the regular season finale at home against ACC rival Virginia, a fellow 2006 College Cup participant.
Following two preseason exhibition games at Furman on Aug. 20 and at home against Cincinnati on Aug. 25, Wake will participate in two tournaments to open its regular season. The Deacs will face Old Dominion to kick off the University of North Carolina Tournament on Aug. 31 in Chapel Hill and then play Monmouth on Sept. 2 to close the tournament out. Both opponents were members of the 2006 NCAA Tournament field.
The Deacons will return home to host their annual Wake Forest University Tournament that will bring Akron, Bradley and North Carolina to Spry Stadium. Wake will play Akron on Sept. 7 and Bradley on Sept. 9.
The Louisville Cardinals will come to town on Sept. 15 to play Wake Forest in the first ever meeting between the two schools. The Deacs will then hit the road for their conference opener against Clemson a week later on Sept. 22.
Wake will come home to play Maryland on Sept. 29 as well as Elon on Oct. 2. The Deacs will face Virginia Tech on Oct. 5 in Blacksburg before returning home for consecutive home matches against Appalachian State on Oct. 9 and NC State on Oct. 13.
Wake will then be forced to contend with four straight road matches beginning with backyard rival UNC Greensboro on Oct. 16. The Deacs will travel to Durham, N.C., for a game with Duke on Oct. 19, a rematch from the championship game of last season's ACC Tournament. Coastal Carolina will await the Deacs in Conway, S.C., on Oct. 23 before travelling to Chestnut Hill, Mass., on Oct. 27 for a game with Boston College to close the road swing.
The Deacs will have three consecutive home matches to close out the season. North Carolina will visit Spry on Nov. 3, and Davidson will make the short trip to Winston-Salem for a mid-week match on Nov. 6. The Virginia Cavaliers will be in town on Nov. 10 for both teams' regular season closer.
The 2007 ACC Tournament will take place from Nov. 13-18 at SAS Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
