DALLAS -- Wake Forest senior center Steve Justice was named to the 2007 Outland Trophy watch list, an award given to college football's best offensive or defensive lineman. The list include 41 candidates selected by the Football Writers Association of America.
The native of Port Orange, Fla., was a first team All-ACC performer last year, according to the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association and College Football News. Justice was chosen ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week on September 25th and November 5th. Justice started all 14 games at center for the ACC Champions. He tied for the team lead with 843 snaps out of 861, about 98 percent of all offensive plays. Justice led all Deacon linemen with a 92 percent season grade. He tallied 65.5 knockdown blocks, the third-most on the team. Justice capped his award-winning season with a 99 percent performance in the ACC Championship Game against Georgia Tech and a 94 percent in the FedEx Orange Bowl against Louisville.
Justice is one of just two ACC offensive linemen on the list and one of just three ACC players overall.
The 2007 Outland Trophy announcement will be on Dec. 6 in Orlando, Fla., on the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show. The Outland Trophy presentation banquet, sponsored by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee, will be in January 2008 in Omaha, Neb.
The Outland Trophy has been awarded annually by the FWAA since 1946. It is named after the late John Outland, a lineman at Pennsylvania at the turn of the century. Joe Thomas of Wisconsin, a first round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, won last year's Outland Trophy.
