FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Former Deacon defender Michael Parkhurst is one of 18 MLS players selected to battle Celtic FC in the Sierra Mist All-Star Game on July 19 in Commerce City, Colo.
Two other New England Revolution members, including goalkeeper Matt Reis and midfielder Shalrie Joseph, will join Parkhurst at the All-Star contest. In addition, Revolution Head Coach Steve Nichol was selected as the 2007 All-Star coach.
The upcoming contest marks Parkhurst's second All-Star invitation since New England picked the Providence, R.I. native in the first round of the 2005 MLS SuperDraft. In 2005, Parkhurst played every minute of every Revolution game and missed just two games in 2006. Soccer America named the former Deacon defender to the 2006 MLS Cup Playoffs Best XI and the MLS recognized Parkhurst as the 2006 U.S. Soccer Foundation Humanitarian of the Year for his service work.
While at Wake, Parkhurst became a two-time NSCAA Second-Team All-America member and was voted ACC Defender of the Year as a junior.
The Sierra Mist MLS All-Star Game will be televised live from Dick's Sporting Goods Park on ESPN2 and Telefutura on July 19 at 9 p.m. ET.
