PINEHURST, N.C. - Defending ACC champion Wake Forest was picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic Division in voting conducted by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association on Monday. The Demon Deacons received 13 first-place votes and 325 points overall in the poll, which was released on the second day of the ACC Football Kickoff held at the Pinehurst Golf Resort.
Wake Forest received the seventh-most points overall and was just seven points behind Clemson for the third spot in the Atlantic Division.
The media picked Florida State to win the Atlantic, as the Seminoles received 37 of a possible 83 first-place votes. Boston College, slotted second in the preseason standings, received 25 first-place votes, while Clemson received the remaining eight. Maryland and NC State rounded out the Atlantic Division.
Virginia Tech was picked to win the Coastal Division and also the ACC Championship Game. The Hokies received 77 first-place votes, easily out-distancing defending division champion Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets received four first-place votes, while Miami picked up two and was third in the standings. Virginia, North Carolina and Duke rounded out the rest of the Coastal Division.
Last season, the Deacons were picked to finish last in the Atlantic but made a miraculous run to the ACC Championship Game. Wake then knocked off Georgia Tech for the conference title, earning its first-ever bid to the FedEx Orange Bowl.
