Frisco, Texas - Four members of the Wake Forest women's soccer team helped take their club team to the United States Youth Soccer Association Championships, held this week in Frisco, Texas.
Rising sophomores Caitlin Farrell, Bess Harrington, Allie Sadow and Sarah Winslow provided crucial support to the 1987 CASL Spartan Elite Under-19 squad in their championship run. At nationals, the CASL opened with a 1-0 loss to the Carmel Cyclones, followed with a 1-1 draw to the PWSI Cardinals and ended with a 3-1 win over Sereno 88 White.
In the final win, Sadow and Winslow were responsible for all CASL goals.
The 1-1-1 CASL mark wasn't enough to qualify the squad for a spot in the finals, which the Carmel Cyclones eventually snagged with a 1-0 win over the Cardinals.
The CASL squad advanced to nationals by winning the Southern Regionals in the "Mud Bowl" in Oklahoma City. The team beat the defending national champions 2-0 to eliminate them in bracket play, clinching the regional championship with an overwhelming 6-0 win in the finals.
