Postgame Notes
Boston College 38, Wake Forest 28
Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007
- Alphonso Smith's interception on the first BC offensive play of the game was his seventh career interception and his second interception return for a touchdown. He intercepted a pass and returned it for a TD against NC State as a freshman in 2005.
- Riley Skinner has now thrown at least one touchdown pass in 10 of his 14 career starts. Skinner completed his first 10 passes of the game. The sophomore quarterback finished 28-for-37 with one touchdown and a career-high three interceptions. The 28 completions were also a career-high and fell just one shy of Wake Forest's top 10 single-game list. Skinner left the game in the third quarter after landing on his throwing shoulder.
- This marks the second straight season opener that Wake Forest has had its starting quarterback go down with an injury. In 2006 against Syracuse, Ben Mauk dislocated his shoulder and broke his throwing arm after diving for a fumble. Mauk was lost for season, and Riley Skinner came on for Mauk.
- Kenneth Moore tied the Wake Forest single-game record with 15 receptions. Moore fell one catch shy of the ACC record of 16. Moore's previous career-high for receptions was eight.
- The Wake Forest record for pass receptions in a game was 15 by James Brim vs. N.C. State on Sept. 20, 1986 and by Marlon Estes vs. N.C. State on Nov. 18, 1995.
- The ACC record for receptions in a game is 16, held by four players, most recently by Virginia's Alvin Pearman vs. Florida State, Oct. 18, 2003.
- Moore had his first career 100-yard receiving game and finished with a career-best 126 yards. Moore missed time during the third quarter after needing fluids but came back out for the fourth quarter.
- Matt Robinson was taken for X-rays on his right ankle. He was injured on the first play from scrimmage, Alphonso Smith's interception return for a touchdown.
- Chip Vaughn's 38-yard fumble return for a touchdown was his first career touchdown. The fumble was caused by Alphonso Smith.
- Brett Hodges came on at quarterback with 2:31 to play in the third quarter. Hodges finished the day 17-for-23 for 130 yards with one touchdown and one interception. His fourth-quarter, 12-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Harris was the first of Hodges' career. In his third career game, Hodges posted career-highs in completions, attempts and yards.
- Marcus Williams made his first career interception in his first career game. Williams picked off a Matt Ryan pass at Wake's 20-yard line with under 10 minutes to play in the fourth quarter.
- Demir Boldin made his first reception since the 2005 season, while Delon Lowe caught his first pass since 2004.
- Rich Belton's rush up the middle on fourth down failed with under six minutes to play in the fourth quarter. Last season, Belton was 4-for-5 on fourth-down conversion plays. Wake Forest used Belton on each of its five fourth-down tries in 2006.
- John Tereshinski posted career-highs of six catches and 75 yards. His previous bests were five catches (2005 vs. Clemson) and 42 yards (2006 at Florida State).
- Kevin Marion had a career-best five receptions, besting his previous high of four (twice, last in 2006 vs. Louisville).
- Zac Selmon tied his career-high with three receptions, while Chip Brinkman caught his first career pass and finished with five receptions.
