WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Four Wake Forest women's soccer players picked up National and Regional honors by the NSCAA and Soccer Buzz for stand-out performances in 2007.
Sophomore Kaley Fountain was named to the Soccer Buzz National All-American Fourth Team. Foutain, a defender from Austin, Texas native, picked up All-ACC First Team honors and All-Team Tournament honors for 2007 in addition to the receiving first team All-State Honors from the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA).
2007 marked the first season Fountain earned a start as a defender for the Demon Deacons, making a switch over the summer from forward. At the ACC Tourney in November, Fountain picked up her first goal of the season in WFU's 1-0 overtime win over Duke in the opening round. Fountain was also the 2007 Demon Deacon assist leader with seven for the season.
Fountain and classmate Jill Hutchinson were named to the NSCAA All-American 3rd Team for the Southeast Region. Hutchinson, out of Wayne, Pa., was the leading Demon Deacon scorer with 10 goals in 2007, including five game-winners. She was three-time Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week member and two-time ACC Player of the Week for clutch season performances, including her 2-goal game in No. 22 Wake's 3-2 upset over No. 10 Florida State on October 25.
Additional honors for the Deacons include Amy Smerdzinski, who was named to the 2nd Team All-Southest Region All-American by Soccer Buzz and Samantha Germano, named Southeast Region A-Freshman team by Soccer Buzz.
