FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Graduated Wake Forest men's soccer players Julian Valentin, Pat Phelan and Brian Edwards will begin drills at the MLS Combine on Saturday in preparation for the MLS SuperDraft on January 18.
Combine participation is by invitation only. A committee of NCAA Division I coaches from every conference, along with MLS representatives, chooses 50 to 60 seniors from schools throughout the country who have completed their college eligibility.
The players are divided into four separate teams, named adiPure, adiTunit, PowerServe and Trofeo. The teams are led by prominent collegiate coaches and select youth coaches, who train and prepare them for a series of matches. The first day is dedicated to practices and warm-ups for each team. Matches are played as doubleheaders on January 12, 13 and 15.
The combine gives MLS coaches and general managers a chance to evaluate the talent before the SuperDraft in Baltimore.
