Deacons Host UNCG in Season Opener

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team will officially open the 2008-09 season against UNC Greensboro on Monday, November 17 at the Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
The Demon Deacons (0-0) played two exhibition contests, taking a 76-48 win over Lenoir Rhyne on November 3 and an 87-45 win over IUP on November 7. Senior forward Corinne Groves averaged 24.5 points and 6.5 rebounds between both games. Fellow senior Alex Tchangoue averaged 11.5 points 3.5 rebounds.
The Spartans (0-1) finished 2007-08 with an overall record of 7-24 and a 4-14 mark in the Southern Conference. Last season the Spartans played without the talent of their 2006-07 Preseason Player of the Year Kristen Boone, who injured her knee before the start of the season. The redshirt senior put up 10 points in UNCG's exhibition matchup against Guilford College.
The Spartans opened the sesaon on November 14 with Virginia Tech, falling 59-53 in Blacksburg, Va. Junior guards Lykia Hyson and Amanda Leigh netted a team-high 11 points.
Wake Forest and UNCG last played each other in December of 2005. The Spartans defeated the Deacons 70-64 in Winston-Salem.
The Demon Deacons will continue play on Friday, November 21, hosting Appalachian State in the Joel Coliseum Annex at 7 p.m.
