Box Score

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team held UNC Greensboro to just 13 points in the first half en route to its 62-27 win on Monday evening in Winston-Salem.

Wake Forest's (1-0) Alex Tchangoue and Camille Collier each netted a game-high 12 points and Demon Deacon rookie Secily Ray was the game leader in rebounds, pulling 11 boards. Agneta Morkunaite led the Spartans (0-2) in scoring and rebounding with eight points and seven boards.

The Demon Deacons set a new program record in steals, topping the old record of 25 set against Delaware State on January 2, 1988 with 28 picks in Monday's game. Brooke Thomas and Courteney Morris each contributed five steals to the Wake Forest total.

Wake Forest also made its mark in the Spartan record book. No team has ever held UNCG to 27 points or lower, the closest low total was 29, set by NC State last November in Raleigh. UNCG's .191 field goal shooting percentage was also a new program low.

The WFU defense forced 36 turnovers and shut down the Spartan attack down in the opening portion of the second half, where Amanda Leigh's 3-pointer at the 12:26 mark was the first UNCG score since the halftime break.

Last season the Demon Deacons led the ACC in scoring defense, but only surpassed the 60 point mark seven times. It was six games into the season before they were able to get there.

Just over three minutes after tip-off UNCG's Amanda Leigh netted a 3-pointer to give the Spartans their only lead of the game (6-5). At 16:02 Wake Forest's Alex Tchangoue netted a jumper and sparked a 25-4 WF run.

Camille Collier had her pocked picked by Lakiah Hyson, who popped up a jumper in the paint to put UNCG into double digit scoring for the first time in the game with 2:11 left in the first half (29-11).

Redshirt junior Sarah Riddle set new career highs in both rebounds (6) and blocks (2).

The Demon Deacons will continue play on Friday, November 21, when they host Appalachian State at the Joel Coliseum Annex at 7 p.m.
