WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest head men's golf coach Jerry Haas has announced that both Evan Beck and Charlie Harrison have signed letters of intent to join the Wake Forest men's golf team in 2009.

"We are excited about having both Evan and Charlie join us next season," said Haas. "Both are good young players and it will be fun to watch each of their games develop."

Beck is from Virginia Beach, Va., where he attended Norfolk Academy. He had a tremendous 2008, earning first team Rolex Junior All-American honors and he is currently ranked No. 2 in the Polo Junior Golf Rankings.

Beck earned his lofty ranking due to a stellar summer that saw him make the finals of the US Junior Amateur and post five straight top-10 finishes in AJGA events, including back-to-back wins at the Golf Pride Junior Classic and The Junior PLAYERS Championship. He carded rounds of 69-69-68=206 to win the Golf Pride Classic and then fired rounds of 70-69-70=209 (-7) to set the tournament record at the Junior PLAYERS.

He also played in the US Amateur and finished third at the North & South Junior Amateur this past summer. Both events were played at famed Pinehurst.

"Evan is a very good player," Haas said. "He is a very mature player as far as he controls his emotions well and he has had plenty of experience in big events. He's the type of player that has the potential to come in and make in impact right away."

Harrison is standout from Whitefield Academy in Atlanta, Ga. He recently set the course record with a 65 at his hometown Peach Tree City Country Club and fired a personal-best 63 this past summer.

Harrison played in both the Southern Junior and Southern Amateur this past summer and has grown into a very good young player.

"Charlie is a very solid player and has a very good makeup," Haas said. "He is also fun to watch because he hits the ball so long and he is a very emotional player. He's one of those guys that is constantly working on his game and he is extremely dedicated. Charlie is tall and strong and has a very good upside."
