Three Deacons Named to All-State Team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Wake Forest senior Amy Smerdzinski and juniors Kaley Fountain and Jill Hutchinson were named to the 2008 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State Women's Soccer Team.
The three selections for Wake Forest was one behind Charlotte, which led all schools with four players named to the team. UNC Greensboro had two players selected.
Hutchinson and Fountain were named to the all-state team for the second straight year, while Smerdzinski earned the honor for the first time in her career.
A senior midfielder from Chantilly, Va., Smerdzinski played and started in all 21 games during the 2008 season for Wake Forest. A 2008 second team All-ACC selection, Smerdzinski scored six goals and 14 points on the season. Smerdzinski finished her career with 16 goals in 86 games, including 76 starts.
Fountain scored two goals and added four assists for the Deacons in 2008. The junior defender from Austin, Texas, was named a member of the All-ACC second team and helped to contribute to nine shutouts on the season. She recently won a gold medal with the United States U-20 Women's National Team at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Chile.
A junior forward from Wayne, Pa., Hutchinson led Wake Forest in the three major offensive categories in 2008, registering 10 goals, seven assists and 27 points. Hutchinson scored six game-winning goals during the season, including the game-winner in Wake Forest's victory over Morehead State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
