WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest men's soccer head coach Jay Vidovich was named South Region Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. By virtue of winning the award, Vidovich is now eligible for the national coach of the year award.
Vidovich, who just completed his 15th year at Wake Forest, led the Demon Deacons to a 21-2-1 record and a No. 1 ranking throughout most of the 2008 season. He guided the Deacons to their third straight appearance in the College Cup in 2008. Vidovich reached a career milestone in 2008 as he won the 200th game of his career against UNC Greensboro.
Vidovich has developed into one of the top coaches in college soccer. He has compiled a career record of 208-83-28, winning nearly 70 percent of the games he has coached in. In 2007, Vidovich was named the NSCAA National Coach of the Year after leading the Demon Deacons to the first national championship in program history.
Wenzel Named to All-Freshman Team by College Soccer News: Freshman defender Danny Wenzel was named a member of the first team All-Freshman Team by College Soccer News. The honor marks the third all-freshman team that Wenzel has been named to as he was also honored by Top Drawer Soccer and Soccer America.
A native of Federal Way, Wash., Wenzel played in 21 games, including 20 starts, during the 2008 season. He combined on 14 shutouts for the Deacons and was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team. Wenzel also scored a goal and added three assists.
